A High Dependency Unit (HDU) is a specialized medical ward that offers intermediate care to patients who are not critical enough for intensive care but require more support than what is offered in a regular ward. At Shishuka Hospital, our Pediatric HDU is designed specifically for children needing close observation and skilled nursing care.
Our pediatricians may recommend HDU care in situations such as:
Respiratory distress requiring oxygen therapy or non-invasive ventilation
Post-surgical recovery needs close observation
Severe infections requiring intravenous antibiotics
Neurological monitoring after seizures or trauma
Transition phase from PICU to the general ward
